FREE PROPERTY TAX RELIEF CONSULTATIONS FOR ROSELLE SENIORS
Roselle senior citizens who need assistance filing for property tax relief are welcome to attend a free property tax relief session at Roselle Borough Hall.The sessions, which began on April 1 and run through June 1, are sponsored by Mayor Smith to help residents understand the requirements of New Jersey.s Property Tax Reimbursement Program and to provide professional support for filing tax rebate forms.
Reg Rufus, owner of Liberty Tax Service based in Linden, gives free consultations to Roselle seniors as part of the mayor.s program.
.When Mayor Smith approached me about helping the seniors in Roselle I was thrilled. I thought . what a great opportunity to give back . to help seniors address their concerns with property taxes and possibly help them find some relief,. Mr. Rufus said.
Many seniors may not be aware the rebates they qualify for, said Mr. Rufus. Even those who are knowledgeable may be overlooking a rebate.
Senior Rebate Assistance Schedule
Free tax assistance is being offered to seniors who qualify until June 1 on the following days and times: Fridays, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Roselle Borough Hall, municipal chambers; Wednesdays 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the office of Liberty Tax Service, 336 W. .Senior Freeze.
Senior Freeze is another term for the New Jersey Property Tax Reimbursement Program aimed at senior citizens and people with disabilities.According to the State Division of Taxation, homeowners who qualify can obtain the difference between the due and paid base year property taxes and the amount due and paid in the current year. For instance, a qualifying person who paid $3,600 in property taxes in 2000, and then paid $4,200 in 2004, would be eligible for a $600 rebate.
Applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements for both the base year and the current year to qualify for the rebate. For more information, visit the State Division of Taxation Web site at: www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/index. html.

The Roselle Fire Department is
conducting free home safety
inspections for senior citizens.
Services include free installation of
smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
